Last July, Michael decided to give himself a five-minute deadline — five minutes from the moment he turned on the camera till he got a finished sculpture. In this case, he not only beat his deadline; he was able, he says, “to capture the creation and natural collapse of the balance before the five-minute limit.”
But how? How does he do it? First, he says, you’ve got to “know the rocks.” I think this is a Zen thing. Or maybe a sculptor’s thing. In his YouTube commentary, he explains what happens next:
“Notice the technique of bracing the lower rocks while placing the next top rock acts as a pin to stabilize the whole structure, which is why it is very helpful to use a LARGE rock on top. plus, i like the overall design balance that the large top rock adds. and i love shades of red. as soon as i found that red rock, i knew it must go on top. it was a beautiful rock. :) contemplate, try it for yourself. all about presence in the moment. SLOW down. become the balance. :)”
My sense? I think the man’s got great hands, hands that can feel the exact weight of a stone and a mind that can concentrate and somehow get inside these stones and, as he puts it, “Become the balance.” I think Michael, when he does this, crosses the line between animal and mineral. For a brief time, he is what he builds.
Mother Nature is Menopausal
Ok I understand that this may seem like an extreme idea or just come off as a joke… but in all seriousness it could actually be happening. I understand that the mother of this earth is not an actual human, therefore how could it go through these events? But if you look around us it is happening.
To understand this you have to grasp the idea that there is a greater outside force to life, one that rolls with the punches and have dealt with the crap of human development crumble, and redevelopment. Through thick and thin it has worked to keep balance in the natural world which is not an easy task, yet it still does its best to keep the forests green, water clean and air pure. Not to mention the harmony and balance of life itself where it really matters.
As all of you know trying to keep something the way it is take a lot of effort and work. In todays world it is more corporate than ever, money driven than ever, ull of bullshit and no understanding. People with heavy influence due to cash have their hands in the spines of those with power. And those with power have there hands in the pockets of those with clams. It has gotten to the point of no return to some extend.
Mother Nature is no fool, she understands, reads, and feels the way the earth rolls. I believe that the time as come (Mayan Calendar or not) that Mother Nature has had enough and after all these years has ventured onto the next part of her journey.
The winter has been mild. When our mother should be cold we are getting flashes of heat. Snow one day and then 50’s the next.
Sounds like hot flashes to me.
